Republican Hints at Criminal Charges for Trump
Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney hinted at a recent January 6th commission meeting that criminal charges could be coming Donald Trump’s way. She opened up by reading off the text messages that members of the press and lawmakers sent to Trump’s Chief of Staff Mark Meadows begging him to call and end to the riots. Cheney argued that Trump was in dereliction of his duty in the 187 minutes in between the start of the insurrection and when he finally told his followers to go home. The specific question that Cheney raised was, “did Donald Trump, through action or inaction, corruptly seek to obstruct or impede Congress’s official proceeding to count electoral votes?” If the answer to this question is yes, then he has committed a federal crime known as 18 USC 1505. Obviously, Trump should be tried for inciting the Capitol riots, but whether he will face consequences for the events of the day will probably be a political determination instead of a criminal one. If charges are ever filed, questions would certainly come up about presidential immunity and executive privilege that would launch a legal battle for the ages.
TOTAL CHAOS on Fox News as Hosts Turn On Each Other Over Trump Riots
Fox News personalities are turning on each other following revelations about people trying to convince Donald Trump to get his supporters out of the Capitol building on January 6th. This week, we learned that Fox hosts Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, and Brian Kilmeade reached out to Trump’s Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to tell the president to call off the riots. Geraldo Rivera capitalized on this news on Hannity’s program last night by saying, “I beg you, Sean, to remember the frame of mind you were in when you wrote that text on January 6th. And when Laura did. And when Brian did. And when Don Jr. did. Remember the concern you had?” This made Hannity incredibly uncomfortable, so he called in Dan Bongino to run interference. Bongino said that “the backstabbing of the president you’re engaging is really vile,” arguing that Rivera is not a true conservative because he dared to criticize Trump. Nothing that Rivera said was controversial, but it really struck a nerve with Hannity and Bongino, and that’s probably because they know that he’s right.
From yesterday’s show:
Teacher Dollar Bill Scramble is Dystopian Horror
A viral video from a South Dakota hockey game shows a dystopian nightmare. During one of the game’s intermissions, there was a $5,000 cash scramble where local teachers fought over one dollar bills scattered on the ice so that they could pay for their student’s supplies. The money was donated by CU Mortgage Direct in exchange for sponsorship by the arena. Priorities in this country are so backwards that this spectacle was seen as a valid alternative to properly funding classrooms. People may see the donation as a positive because it can help in the immediate for their particular case, but this is not a scalable solution and the problem is one that shouldn’t exist in the first place. This is reminiscent of the types of stories where kids sets up lemonade stands in order to pay for medical treatment. The media coverage is seen as positive whereas the real story is that this shouldn’t be happening in the first place.
From yesterday’s show:
SCAM: Dinner with Trump Offer Doesn't Include Dinner with Trump
Donald Trump has moved on to his next scam which is to promote the opportunity to have dinner with him in exchange for donations. The National Republican Senatorial Committee is running a promo called “dinner with Trump.” The NRSC’s Twitter page sent out a tweet reading, “ENTER NOW TO MEET PRESIDENT TRUMP Do you want to have dinner with President Trump and Elise Stefanik? It’s a very exclusive event, and we are only inviting our TOP supporters, like you. Enter now for your chance to meet President Trump and Elise Stefanik.” But then in the fine print, the prize offered makes no mention of Trump. It instead says that the winner along with a guest will get to have dinner with Senators Lindsay Graham, Tim Scott, and Rick Scott. This is not the first time this scam has been done — it just happens to be the latest iteration. Every aspect of Trump and the Republican Party is fraudulent from the rhetoric to the policies and now even the giveaways are a scam.
