OH BOY: Jan 6 Committee Subpoenas Trump's Lawyer
The January 6th Committee has subpoenaed Pat Cipollone, Donald Trump’s former lawyer who allegedly talked the former president out of taking even more radical steps to remain in power. This is significant because many of the claims being made by others who have testified before the January 6th Committee are claims about what Pat Cipollone said and told others, so hearing from him directly should be elucidating. "Our committee is certain that Donald Trump does not want Mr. Cipollone to testify here,” said Vice Chair Liz Cheney, "but we think the American people deserve to hear from Mr. Cipollone personally." While this subpoena should force Cipollone’s cooperation, it’s unclear what will happen in the coming weeks.
Trump TURNS on Fox AND Newsmax in Bonkers Interview
Donald Trump’s dissatisfaction with Fox News has been abundantly clear since his embarrassing defeat in the 2020 presidential election, but he has now turned on the ostensibly more unhinged Newsmax for not sufficiently repeating his baseless and false claims about the election results. “The people were there (on January 6th) because the election was rigged and stolen,” said the disgraced president during an interview with Newsmax host Rob Finnerty, “so what they should be doing is trying to convince people that it wasn’t. You do that through analyzing the numbers… Fox doesn’t put it on, and by the way you people don’t put it on either. You’re afraid of being sued or something, I don’t know, some day you’ll have to explain that.” The subtext in this exchange is that Donald Trump is upset with the media outlets that are supposed to be more friendly to him for not doing enough heavy-lifting on reporting the lies that he’s trying to perpetuate.
From yesterday’s show:
Fox News in Shambles After Devastating Trump Riot Testimony
On Tuesday, Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide and assistant to former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, provided explosive testimony before the January 6th Committee. She revealed that Donald Trump wanted armed people to be present at his rally on January 6th, that he once assaulted a member of the Secret Service, and that he regularly smashed White House tableware against the walls. Her testimony was so damning that in the immediate aftermath, Fox News was left speechless. “The testimony in and of itself is really, really powerful,” said Bret Baier, “this testimony was very compelling from beginning to end.” Later in the evening, conservative outlets were reduced to smearing Hutchinson’s character and questioning her credibility without refuting any of her allegations, which shows that her testimony was “really powerful” indeed.
Right Wing INSTANTLY Launches Smear Campaign Against Cassidy Hutchinson
Conservative media launched a smear campaign against Cassidy Hutchinson following her testimony before the January 6th Committee. Although Fox News was initially left speechless, their action plan became clear once given the chance to strategize their messaging. Kash Patel, the Former Chief of Staff to the Acting Secretary of Defense under Donald Trump, appeared on Fox News where he referred to Hutchinson as a junior staffer who “is, I believe, lying to the January 6th Committee for her own self gain.” The notion that Hutchinson is testifying before the committee for “self-gain” is pretty dumb. She is acting out of self-interest, but only in the sense that she faces immense legal pressure to cooperate and thus has no incentive to lie. To the contrary, Hutchinson has become a villain in the view of many Republicans, so if she was aiming to somehow advance her own career, testifying before the January 6th Select Committee may not have been the best strategy for her.
