TX GOV Approval COLLAPSES as COVID Deaths Explode
Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s job approval numbers have been declining recently as he struggles to get COVID under control in his state. Despite being a Republican governor in a Republican state, Abbott’s approval rating is down to 45%, well below its 59% high before the pandemic. Deaths from COVID in the Lone Star State are spiking badly, with 300-400 daily deaths being the norm now. Abbott made a point to do away with COVID restrictions early as a way to spite the Biden administration, and he’s been a vocal opponent of mask and vaccine mandates. To make matters worse for Abbott, he’s up for reelection in 2022 and has to fight a two-front war. Texas GOP Chairman Allen West is running against Abbott in the primary and has been critical of him for shutting down the state over COVID in the first place. If Abbott survives the primary challenge, he could face former US Congressman Beto O’Rourke, who reportedly has been weighing a run. This Texas race is going to be one of the most important contests in the 2022 midterm elections and if the polling is close, Democrats should do whatever they can to pick up the governorship in the nation’s second largest state.
Report: Trump Trying to Remove Mitch McConnell as Senate Leader
Donald Trump is doing his best to remove Mitch McConnell from his position as the leader of the Republicans in the Senate. According to reporting from the Wall Street Journal, Trump has spoken with Republican Senators and other GOP politicians about removing McConnell from leadership, presumably in order to get back at the Kentucky Republican for not backing his bogus claims of voter fraud and certifying the 2020 election in Joe Biden’s favor. There appears to be little appetite for GOP senators to oust McConnell, so what happens next could be a strong indicator for the future of Trumpism within the Republican Party. Trump has been criticizing McConnell a lot lately, recently calling him out for supporting the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package that President Biden wants to champion. Trump said, “if Mitch McConnell was smart, which we've seen no evidence of, he would use the debt ceiling card to negotiate a good infrastructure package.” McConnell is unlikely to go anywhere as leader of the Senate Republicans but that doesn’t mean Trump will stop complaining and trying to get him out.

Trump Sends Delusional Letter Demanding He Be Declared Georgia Winner
Nearly a year after the 2020 election, Donald Trump is still doing his best to be declared the winner of a race he clearly lost. The ex-president has turned his attention back to Georgia and is again trying to pressure Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to flip the results. Just last week, Trump sent him a letter filled with erroneous use of capitalization that read, “Large scale Voter Fraud continues to be reported in Georgia. . . . I respectfully request that your department check this and, if true, along with many other claims of voter fraud and voter irregularities, start the process of decertifying the Election, or whatever the correct legal remedy is, and announce the true winner.” Trump wrapped up the message by saying, “You and Governor Kemp are doing a tremendous disservice to the Great State of Georgia, and to our Nation — which is systemically being destroyed by an illegitimate president and his administration.” This letter shows that Trump all this time later remains obsessed with overturning the results and trying to repair his damaged ego after losing to Joe Biden. At this point, Georgia decertifying the election wouldn’t even do anything to change who the president is because it’s far too late and Biden would have won comfortably even without carrying the Peach State.

Unhinged Newsmax Host Cuts Off Veteran for Blaming Trump
Newsmax host Grant Stinchfield spoke with veteran named Joe Saboe on his program and kicked him off after he made a mild criticism of former President Trump. Saboe runs an organization called Team America, which helps Americans and vulnerable Afghans escape Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover of the country. Saboe went on Newsmax to talk about the American troop withdrawal and noted that Trump was partially responsible for the turmoil in Afghanistan, along with Joe Biden and previous American presidents. Saboe said, “we know the Trump administration’s efforts here were fairly weak, that they were trying to limit the number of people that would get out.” This threw Stinchfield into a rage, who subsequently yelled “cut him off now! You’re not going to blame this on President Trump on my show. That’s not happening.” We have learned that “support the troops” for these guys means support Republican presidents. In this case, there was an example of a veteran who happened to contradict that narrative and it was met with sheer outrage from a right-wing TV host. For all their talk about about open dialogue and free speech, Grant Stinchfield certainly wasn’t open to hearing a perspective that disagreed with his and went so far as throwing a guest off his program to avoid it.
